Ross ‘Blackie’ Talbot charity aims to raise $400,000 in final year

Published Dec 16, 2011

The organisers of the final Ross “Blackie” Talbot charity classic golf tournament hope to raise $400,000 for 13 worthy causes.

The event heads into its 20th and final year in 2012.

Chairman of the organising committee Clement Talbot announced that the recipients of the funds will be: The Adult Education School, the Ross “Blackie” Talbot Education Awards, the Ross “Blackie” Talbot Foundation, Bermuda Zoological Society, Bermuda Hospitals Charitable Trust, PALS, the Bermuda National Trust, the Bermuda Sloop Foundation, the Family Centre, Age Concern Bermuda, the Aerie Foundation, the National Dance Foundation of Bermuda and the Bermuda National Gallery.

The theme of next year’s charity classic is “building a healthy future together”. It begins with a hole-in-one competition on April 7 at Ocean View Golf Club. This is followed by a celebrity pro-am at Rosewood Tucker’s Point Golf Club on April 10, then the main event is at Riddell’s Bay Golf Club from April 11 to 13. Things wrap up with a gala banquet at the Fairmont Southampton hotel on April 14.

The fundraising effort will also feature a raffle with more than $120,000 worth of prizes including a Dodge Caliber car, ten-day cruise and British Airways first class tickets matched with a three-night stay at the London Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel.

The lead sponsor of the event is HSBC Bermuda and other major sponsors include The Royal Gazette.
