Panel discussion featuring Thomas P. Campbell, Director, The Metropolitan Museum, New York, and local museum directors: Lisa Howie, Bermuda National Gallery; Julie Hastings-Smith, Bermuda Society of Arts; Dr. Edward Harris, Bermuda Maritime Museum; Jennifer Gray, Bermuda National Trust; Wendy Tucker, Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute. The panel will explore the relevancy of the museum in today’s uncertain economy, share philosophies and visions.

Franklin Hill Perrell, former Chief Curator of Nassau County Museum Art (curator of over 50 major exhibitions), now historic preservationist, Executive Director of the Roslyn Landmark Society.
Art of 1900- From Impressionism to Art Nouveau
Perrell will lecture about art in 1900 when "modern" meant cars, telephones, electricity, Impressionist art of Monet and Renoir, and the Art Nouveau of Toulouse-Lautrec and Tiffany, and how this impacted art around the world.

Writing The Sublime
'Come forth into the light of things, let nature be your teacher.’ William Wordsworth
Bermudian poets will discuss the inspiration, solace and burden of writing poetry in response to the island's beauty. They will each share poems, which exemplify the sublime theme of the current exhibition, and discuss how memory informs their poems whether writing while on the island or writing about it from afar. Featuring poets Jane Downing, Ron Lightbourne and Nancy Anne Miller.

Impressions from Life: Defining American Impressionism
Join Lynn Marsden-Atlass, Director, Arthur Ross Gallery at the University of Pennsylvania, as she examines the aesthetic, social, and technological changes that forged this new art movement. She will illustrate its growth from expatriates Sargent, Cassatt, and Tanner to Hassam, Chase, and “The Ten”, who appropriated the style and established its importance in American art.

Poetry Week - With the enthusiasm of Bermudian published poet Nancy Miller, and other local writers, join us for a week of creative writing inspired by the artwork in the current exhibition. Contact the gallery to book a school group. Space is limited.
