Art & Me
Art & Me is a collaboration pilot art programme between three important local art organizations: Bermuda National Gallery,Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation, and The Masterworks Museum of Art. The purpose of Art & Me is to enrich the school art curriculum with creative experiences, critical inquiry, and art appreciation. Below are the learning objectives and the tools for assessment:
Learning Objectives
DRIVING PRINCIPLE: I AM CREATIVE
PRACTICAL ART SKILLS/ CREATIVE EXPRESSION
Students will be challenged to develop their creativity using various art skills, such as:
- understanding / fluency of the elements of art; line, colour, shape, texture, form, space and value
- use of different mediums
- knowledge and correct use of materials and equipment, including responsible use of space
CRITICAL THINKING/ OPENMINDEDNESS
Using Bloom’s Taxonomy, students will be challenged to think creatively about art, while making cross-curricular connections when possible. The intellectual skills that will be developed include:
- remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, evaluating, creating
ART HISTORY / ART APPRECIATION
To develop creative identity, students will be exposed to the creative journeys of other artists and art trends. To realize this, students will:
- develop art vocabulary and creative expression (verbal, visual, written)
- learn about different art movements
- learn about significant artists – local and international
Overall Outcomes/ Tools of Observation
- students will create a sketchbook which captures their experiences and learning progress
- teachers will use an observational checklist to assess levels of engagement, behaviors, skill development on an ongoing lesson-by-lesson basis
- each organization will provide a safe and secure environment for creative risk taking
- the emphasis for each lesson, and the program in total, is to develop students’ awareness of themselves as creative individuals
In 2011/12, Art & Me will concentrate on one school, Gilbert Primary, working with the primary 4 and 5 students.
