Sharon R. Wilson has two works included in the Bermuda National Gallery’s Permanent Collection. She maintains a working studio and gallery in Southampton where for the last ten years she has operated the Sharon Wilson School of Art. The school caters to adults who are primarily interested in learning the use of pastels. Her background is in the field of illustration. Between 1997 and 2002 she illustrated children’s books for Simon & Schuster, Little Brown Publishers, Candlewick Press and Walker Books of London. In June 2006, the Bermuda Postal Office issued a 70-cent stamp depicting Stonecutters, a painting by the artist.

Artist's statement

"The unrelenting question for me is: Is this work relevant? In my opinion the artist must be vigilant, must remain focused, question more, dig deeper, and resist the temptation to work without conscious thought. I am committed to this."
