Katherine Harriott is interested generally in social justice, particularly around women’s issues, but says her art is not limited by that. "Often I find that a series of similar events, people’s stories, news articles or personal experiences conspire to come together in a cluster that forces me to turn my attention to a specific topic. If an injustice captures my attention and engages me emotionally, intellectually and most often personally I then start to think about how to represent that idea visually. This often calls for more reading and research and that then expands to further layers of meaning to the original idea and therefore more layers and meaning to the final product." Katherine Harriott earned her BA from Carleton University, and a Master’s in Education from Acadia University. She also studied Intuitive Measures at the Penland School of Crafts, North Carolina under Terry Adkins.
