Art has been an important part of Shelley Hammill's life since she was a child. Her grandmother was an artist who always had a canvas or paper and brushes at the ready. Growing up in Fort Worth, Texas, the Kimball Art Museum and the Amon Carter Museum were also important resources. She says: “Upon settling in Bermuda, I became and remain actively involved with the Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, the Bermuda National Gallery and Kaleidoscope Arts Foundation. My roles have included everything from organising special events to creating art opportunities at the school level. In 1998 I founded Art in the Park- a free art opportunity for children including arts and crafts, live music, dancing and storytelling that saw as many as 1000 children at each event.” Now, she is on the other side of the canvas. In 2007 she completed the Master in Tile Mosaic course at the Orsoni School, Venice, Italy.
